The DVD will eject. To fast foward, press the > "right arrow" button (next to the OK button) and you can scroll forward without going all the way to the next sceen.Same works with the < left arrow button.I'm currently running the player through my DVD Recorder and it's working perfectly. Note: Like most US DVDs, most Brit DVDs are protected and cannot be copied. A previous review indicated that you could not fast forward or eject the DVD with the remote. I didn't need to connect directly to my TV. While it's not mentioned in the instruction book, the remote CAN perform these functions. To eject, hold the stop button down for a couple of secords.
I am also excited about the picture quality and sound. The Philips DVP5140, is an excellent device. I purchased it to play DVD's from the UK and they show wonderfully.
Would recommend this product, as I definitely plan on getting another for my other TV. I have never had a problem with reading either region 1 or 2 discs, they always come in clear and beautiful. I have had this product for well over a year and half and it has worked wonderfully for me. All I ever did was open the package, hook it up to my tv and insert one of my region 2 discs.
If you pause or stop the DVD, and them come back the next day, it has turned off and does not remember its position in the movie. I was looking for a great DVD player that did not need to do BluRay. This DVD player does as advertised. Also no subtitle key on the remote. I failed. It plays DVDs. However, the remote had no Fast Forward, or Reverse -- you can only jump ahead or back a section.
This dual set in Region 1 under the name, "Yes, Minister/Yes, Prime Minister 2-Pak," - also 7 discs total - and is offered NEW for $110.99 with free shipping on Amazon USA. REGION FREE RULES. As of this writing, "The Complete Yes Minister & Yes Prime Minister - Collector's Boxset" (REGION 2 - 7 disc set) is available NEW on AMAZON UK site for $33.15 U.S.Dollars INCLUDING AIRMAIL. I use it constantly and it is still going strong almost two years later.
Region 1 format. I'm just a frugal girl from the South Georgia, USA boondocks, who watches lots of BBC AMERICA and GPBS television. +++ There's hardly ever a beautiful day here that is "completely conducive to contemplating cozy charismatic country cottages." Nor do I have a sister, Violet, with a Mercedes, sauna and a musical bidet. Classical, of course. MANY TIMES THIS PLAYER ALLOWS ME TO BUY CHEAPER DVDS OFFERED IN OTHER REGION FORMATS ON AMAZON UK WEB SITE. IT HAS PAYED FOR ITSELF MANY TIMES OVER. I love to buy from the AMAZON UK web site. Also, sometimes British DVDs are much cheaper on Amazon UK even with conversion rate and no free shipping to US.
Another example is that the complete Dinnerladies Boxed set is available in Region 2 but I can't find it in Region 1. (SAVINGS OF OVER $75 ON ONE DVD SET - BOTH NEW FROM AMAZON).NOTE: IF YOU BUY FROM AMAZON UK, BE SURE TO TURN ON CURRENCY CONVERSION TOOL. ***No, I'm not an AMAZON UK employee - didn't even sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. It is so nice not having to worry about PAL, region, etc. That way you get to see true US dollar price before purchase.
I bought this player in October 2007. Now if you compare this price to Region 1 DVDs available, you have great savings. For example, I can get Waiting for God - Season 5 - on Amazon UK but not Amazon USA. I love British comedies, series, and movies, some of which are not easily available in U.S. with this player.
